What is Vital Consultants

Vital Consultants is a unique International Non-Government affiliated Humanitarian Aid Organization. The purpose of Vital Consultants is to save lives and ease the suffering of those in acute crises and help to manage the needs of those afflicted with long term debilitating disease. Nearly a decade ago our work began in Kenya and continues to be our primary focus. Vital Consultants is confronted each day with a multitude of conditions such as: Political unrest, tribal conflict, violent crime, epidemics, malnutrition, health care exclusion, natural disaster, longterm medical needs and emergency medical care.

Bearing Witness and Speaking Out

VC medical teams often witness violent atrocities and neglect in the course of their work largely in regions that receive scant international attention. Vital Consultants has spoken out publicly in an effort to bring forgotten crises to public attention, to alert the public to abuses occurring beyond the headlines, to criticize the inadequacies of the aid system, or to challenge the diversion of humanitarian aid for political interests. As in any third word country there exists a dramatic contrast between private and government health care facilities. Government facilities are open-air hospitals plagued with over-crowding, understaffing, lack of instrumentation, medication, education and follow up. We provide instrumentation, medication, education, follow up and volunteer our medical expertise through direct patient care.

2010 Mission – Joytown School

Vital Consultants is known for overcoming the seemingly impossible. Thika, Kenya is a small town 30 kilometers outside of Nairobi which hosts multiple schools for thousands of Kenya’s physically challenged children. We’ve taken interest in a special school named Joytown where there are 400+ students ages 5-18. Missing limbs, neurological disorders, growth disorders and spinal injuries are among the top afflictions. I’m personally tending to these children one at a time and will not rest until their care is optimized (prosthetics, crutches, canes, wheelchairs, medication, surgery, etc.).

10 years ago, I left a well established medical career at the Mayo Clinic in order to take Vital Consultants mission to those who suffer in developing countries. Once again, I have come across the seemingly impossible, with your help we will overcome it.

Exclusion from Health Care

Street children, migrants, minorities, displaced people, refugees, prisoners, people with HIV/AIDS or tuberculosis, drug users, sex workers… Within stable societies as well as during periods of instability and conflict, many people find themselves unable to access health care simply because of who they are. They may fear stigma and be reluctant to seek help, or their health care system may deliberately neglect or exclude them. Vital Consultants bridges this gap of discriminant exclusion and simply treats all those in need.

Natural Disasters

Natural disasters can completely overwhelm a local or national health structure in a matter of minutes. Vital Consultants is unique in it’s ability to respond quickly, generally on the scene within 24-48 hours. Countless lives are saved, infections prevented and limbs preserved.

Vital Consultants assists refugees fleeing their homes en route to safe camps and other temporary shelters by providing basic essentials for survival including medical care, food, clothing, and other supplies.

Research and Data Collection

Vital Consultants field operations continually gather valuable data specific to
many devastating health issues such as HIV/AIDS (adult and pediatric), malaria,
tuberculosis, complicated pregnancy, drug use, sexual violence, etc. This data
can be used in collaborative efforts to optimize the approach of all NGO’s.
